The Japan Bowl® created by the Japan-America Society of Washington DC in 1992 hosts an annual competition which tests the achievements of high school students throughout the United States. More than 250 students competed and enjoyed the workshop programs including Maki’s pencil and paper puzzle questions. Students purchased Maki’s autographed Nikoli books. Nikoli donated all the proceeds to the Japan Relief Fund. Students sang a Neighbor’s Totoro song with messages supporting Japan, which was videotaped to be sent to the people affected in the disaster.
